The Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation

In 1946, the death of sportswriter and journalist Damon Runyon from cancer inspired his friends to raise money in his memory to fight cancer. Over $300 million has been invested in the work of exceptional scientists and Damon Runyon cancer researchers have made significant breakthroughs in every area of cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

In 2012, Miles was recognized at the Damon Runyon Annual Breakfast in honour for his support of the innovative cancer research centre, which raised $1.3 million for cancer research. Miles said, “We can all learn a lot from small, entrepreneurial organizations like Damon Runyon that dare to challenge conventional wisdom, disruptive innovation…has been key to the success of my own companies and will be central to curing cancer.”
